Creative look at developing websites using Microsofts Silverlight

Creative Bubbles is not just a web design and web development team in Nottingham building and designing websites for clients. We also offer advice and support to our clients and one of the questions we were asked yesterday was how our client could achieve an exciting website on their mobile smartphone as well as on their home computer.Silverlight Website Demo

Funny they asked as the team at Creative have been learning the development framework for Silverlight, a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in offering delivery of rich web 2.0 styles websites not only for your desktop but also the mobile phones such as the new Nokia N96 being released soon.

Silverlight is seen as a competitor to Adobe's Flash, which is already used by popular websites such as YouTube, however what makes Silverlight so appealing is its support for existing Microsoft Frameworks, DVD quality video playback and easy-to-install plug-in which is only 1.3MB.

Most importantly the software firm has signed a deal with handset manufacturer Nokia to bring its Silverlight platform to millions of mobile phones. Microsoft has stressed its value for developing Web 2.0 applications that would work on a computer, but also on any other device including mobile phones.

Silverlight will be developed to work on the S60 operating system which has a dominant place in the market, with over 52% of the market share. This means that Silver light may well end up being the dominant platform for web development on the phone. This could have an effect on laptop sales as figures suggest smart phone sales overtaken laptop sales very soon mainly thanks to the Apple iPhone.

Silverlight could be the product that final kills off Flash and ends the distinction between mobile web and web.
